About The Event:

The Apple iPhone is becoming as synonymous as apple pie these days – well, at least in Silicon Valley.  Much of the appeal of the iPhone is due to the numerous apps available for download.  How does one approach the development of an iPhone app?  How does one make money from it?  This event sits on the intersection of technology and business.  We have invited Christopher Allen, Co-Author of the definitive iPhone App book, “iPhone in Action: Introduction to Web and SDK Development” to moderate a panel to explore the various economic and technical issues involved.

Speakers Biographies:

Christopher Allen

Christopher Allen is a Berkeley, California based social software entrepreneur who has been a leader in the software industry, much of which has been centered on facilitation of online communities. As the founder of Consensus Development, Christopher initially focused on groupware, later helped invent SSL and is the co-author of IETF TLS internet-draft. More recently Christopher has been an angel investor of numerous technology startups, founder of an multiplayer online game company, and current authors his blog at www.LifeWithAlacrity.com on the topics including collaboration, security, privacy, social software and internet tools. He is co-author of "iPhone in Action: Introduction to Web and SDK Development", is the founder of the www.iPhoneWebDev.com, the largest iPhone web developer support community, is maintainer of iUI at iui.googlecode.com a popular iPhone javascript library, and is keynote speaker and co-founder of www.iPhoneDevCamp.org where he moderates the popular Hackathon Contest.

 

Anu Shukla

Founder and CEO at Offerpal Media 

Anu Shukla is a serial entrepreneur. Prior to founding Offerpal Media, she was the founder and CEO of Mybuys Inc. where she currently serves on the Board of Directors. Mybuys is a venture-backed company in the eCommerce personalization market. Prior to Mybuys, Anu pioneered the category of Internet Marketing Automation as founder and CEO of Rubric, Inc. Rubric was acquired in 2000 for $366 million. Prior to Rubric, Anu has held a variety of executive roles including the VP of Marketing and Product Strategy at Versata (VATA), and Vice President of Worldwide Marketing and Product Management at Compuware/Uniface Corporation (CPWR). Anu has served on the Board of Directors of the International Museum of Women (imow.org) and the Advisory Board for the Leavey School of Business, Santa Clara University. She was named to the Computer Industry "Dream Team" by Business 2.0 magazine in 2004, awarded the YSU Distinguished Alumni award in 2005, and the Entrepreneur of the Year by the Washington D.C. based Dialogue on Diversity organization in 2005. In 2007 Anu was awarded an Honorary Doctorate degree from Youngstown State University in recognition of her business achievements.

 

Sean Galligan 

Vice President of Business Development at Flurry, Inc.

Sean brings more than 13 years of experience in business development, marketing and sales with major operators and start-ups in the telecommunications industry. At Sprint, he helped launch the company's e-business and mobile computing business units. Prior to joining Flurry, Sean served as Vice President, Commercial Operations at Global Motorsport Group (GMG), a wholesale distribution company controlled by private equity firm Cerberus Capital Management. As a member of the executive team, Sean worked directly with Cerberus to develop GMG's turn-around plan. Sean holds a Bachelor of Science from Purdue University and a Master of Business Administration from Cornell University.

 

Mike Fyall

Product Marketing Manager at Admob

As Manager of Product Marketing at AdMob, Mike Fyall is responsible for the company’s product marketing for next generation platforms, including iPhone and Android, and creating the monthly AdMob Mobile Metrics Report. Prior to joining AdMob, Mike worked at Nielsen Mobile as an account manager handling the company’s relationship with a major national operator. Mike received his undergraduate degree from Stanford University and an MBA from Harvard.

 

Lee Linden

Co-Founder of Tapjoy

Lee Linden is the co-founder of Tapjoy, a venture-funded mobile software company that is on a mission to help developers improve mobile applications and earn more in the process.  He developed a passion for mobile software during his time at Kleiner Perkins Caufield & Byers, where he assisted with the creation of iFund, and investment initiative which focuses on products that extend the revolutionary new iPhone and iPod touch platform.

Lee previously worked in product development at Microsoft and helped create both enterprise and consumer offerings within the company.  He also co-founded ContestMachine.com, a self-service marketing website which thousands of small businesses use to run online promotions.  Lee studied computer engineering at the University of Michigan, and later earned an MBA from Stanford's Graduate School of Business.
